Man dies after being shot in Chicago

The man who died after being hit by a stray bullet was shot in the chest and head during a confrontation in the parking lot of a grocery store in the South Loop, Chicago police said.

The man, later identified as Lucas Roof, 30, was standing outside the Kroger at 18th and Market streets in the south suburb when the shot was fired.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, where he died Saturday night.

Police said the man and two other men were arguing inside the store and the gunfire was exchanged before the victim went inside to confront the two other suspects.

He then left the store to go to his car in a nearby alley, police said, but was struck by a bullet while he was driving, according to police.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Mount Carmel Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police officials said.
