The coat is made from polyurethane, a soft material made up of a combination of water, wax and silicon dioxide.
When heated the material expands and contracts, creating a smooth, even surface that doesn’t break the skin.
The product is known for its high quality and durability, but its creator Henry White said the coat is no ordinary roof coat.
“It’s an amazing coating,” White told HuffPost.
“The idea was to give people the most protection from the elements and not only weather, but everything that comes along.
And I think people have gotten used to the idea of being protected from the sun and the wind, but this is the first product that actually does it all.”
White was born in the Bronx, New York, but moved to Florida to attend the University of Central Florida.
He became interested in the coat after working in a food distribution center and realized that he was a natural for the job.
“It’s kind of like a little girl who loves to sew, and it was like ‘Oh, that’s a perfect fit,'” White said.
“I kind of fell in love with it, but I think there was a little bit of a learning curve.
It took me a while to get used to how it would be used.”
White’s first coat was designed for a customer who was allergic to the wax coating, but he says his current coats are the same thickness, but the coating is more reflective and has a thicker feel.
“They look great,” White said of his new coats.
“When you’re out in the weather and the air is kind of chilly, you can see through the coat.”
The process of creating the coating involves creating an initial coat using a spray of polyurethanol and then using a small amount of acetone to coat the fabric with the material.
White said that the acetone helps absorb the heat from the sunlight and then he adds a layer of polyvinyl alcohol to coat it in the sun.
He said that he would love to work with the government to make it more affordable for people to buy and keep, but that would require government approval.
“People are going to pay more for it and I think we’re in the infancy stage of the process,” White added.
“That said, it’s going to be an amazing product and people will have to take advantage of it.”
White said that a lot of the work is done by hand and that the process of building the coat took him about 10 hours.
“There are a lot more things that go into it than just making the coat,” White explained.
“In terms of how you do it, you have to make a layer with a brush and you have a lot to do with the process and how much you have on hand.”
White is planning to work on more coats as he sees more demand for them.
